Chastity cage

The smallest piece of gear in the glossary, and the only one that stays on all day, right through work.

What is a chastity cage?

A chastity cage, also called a cock cage, is a short, lockable shell that fits over the penis and is too small to let an erection through. A ring behind the scrotum holds it in place, and the key sits with someone else. The cage is the small version; the chastity belt around the waist is the large one.

Also calledcock cage; see cage for the word in both of its sizes

How does a chastity cage work?

The work is in the ring, not in the cage.

The sleeve keeps the penis short and its shape soft; the ring behind the scrotum makes sure the whole thing can’t be pulled off. And that is where the sum sits that people get wrong most often. A ring that fits while he is soft no longer fits once he gets aroused, and that is exactly the moment it has to do its job.

How tight it is allowed to be is not a scene question. Urology has a comparable device, the constriction ring on a vacuum pump, and there the rule is hard. The patient information from the European Association of Urology says: “It’s very important not to leave the ring on for more than 30 minutes.” A chastity ring is looser and does something different, but that number does show the scale on which any ring around the penis gets judged.

Something else that rarely comes up. There is more to an erection than the obvious. Park, Moreland, and Nehra described in The Scientific World Journal that the erectile tissue is one of the few vascular beds where oxygen tension moves with function: 25 to 40 mmHg when soft, 90 to 100 mmHg during an erection. So tissue that goes weeks without an erection also misses that oxygen peak. This has never been measured for chastity cages specifically, and I am not going to pretend it has.

What to watch for

Over short stretches, something rarely goes wrong. Over long ones, it goes wrong through the blood supply, and faster than people expect. The urology literature is clear about that: a ring left on too long can damage the tissue for good, and prying at it yourself with tools makes it worse instead of better. That is exactly why a second key and an agreed way out are not side issues.

One full day and night. Nothing else remarkable about the man.

The practical side of that: keep a spare key within the wearer’s reach, and agree on when the cage comes off instead of how long it stays on. If the skin discolors, if the glans feels cold or numb, it comes off right away, with tools if you have to, and you call a doctor.

Where this fits on this site

A chastity cage is not something I do. The agreement around it is: who decides when you come, within the span of a single evening. What that control looks like and what we settle beforehand, you read at the BDSM date.

This cage belongs to chastity; that is where the agreement lives, and the device is only how it gets carried out.

Frequently asked questions

What people still ask about a chastity cage.

  1. What is a chastity cage?

A chastity cage is a short, lockable shell around the penis that is too small to let an erection through, with a ring behind the scrotum that holds it in place. The key to the lock sits with someone else, usually the keyholder. The large version around the waist is called a chastity belt.

  2. How long can you wear a chastity cage?

There is no safe maximum duration for a chastity cage, because everything depends on the ring and on how the skin underneath reacts. For scale: the European Association of Urology prescribes for the constriction ring of a vacuum pump that it should never stay on longer than thirty minutes. So check color and feeling every day, and take the cage off right away if anything changes.

  3. Who can you turn to with questions about a chastity cage?

With Victor, a gigolo with twenty-five years of experience in BDSM and a background as a psychotherapist. He does not work with a chastity cage, but about orgasm control within a single evening and about the conversation that comes before it, he knows enough.
