Coregasm

An orgasm that has nothing to do with sex, and yet happens regularly during intense exercise.

What is a coregasm?

A coregasm (Dutch: coregasme) is an orgasm or sexual pleasure that comes from physical exercise, usually abdominal exercises, without sexual touch or fantasy. It happens to some women during intense training and disappears as soon as the effort stops. The term is a blend of core (the core muscles) and orgasm.

Not to be confused withan orgasm from sexual touch or fantasy; with a coregasm that is almost always absent

What the research shows

The first systematic study of coregasm came from Herbenick and Fortenberry in 2011. Of the 530 women surveyed, 370 reported an orgasm or sexual pleasure during exercise at some point, most often during abdominal exercises, rope or pole climbing, cycling or spinning, and weightlifting. According to ScienceDaily’s report on the same study, about 45 percent had their first coregasm through abdominal exercises, and the women rarely reported sexual thoughts in the moment itself.

Why a coregasm stands out

A coregasm surprises people, precisely because nothing sexual comes before it. It shows that an orgasm does not always have to come from touch or fantasy, but sometimes from tension in the right muscles. For those it happens to, it is often confusion first and then curiosity. It does not happen to everyone who does the same exercises, and it is not something you can force by training harder.
