Clit torture

Nowhere else on the body sits this much feeling on so little surface, and that makes every step bigger than it looks.

What is clit torture?

Clit torture is pain play aimed at the clitoris, using clamps, a suction cup, vibration, or taps. The full name is clitoral torture, but hardly anyone uses it; the scene sticks with clit torture or the abbreviation CT.

Why people do it

The appeal is the same as with any other pain play, only magnified. What is a tap anywhere else is an event here.

  • For the one receiving, the payoff is in the flip. A touch that would be too little anywhere else is already too much here, and right on that edge comes the feeling of being at someone’s mercy that people are after.
  • For the one giving, the draw is the precision. There is no room to do anything roughly; every move lands right away and you can read it off her instantly.
  • For a couple, the payoff is a trust you cannot rehearse in a conversation. This area does not just let go of you.

The first time nearly always goes too far here if you are not paying attention. Not because people are reckless, but because the scale is different from what anyone expects.

Why this area is different

The anatomy explains most of it. The visible glans of the clitoris is, according to the encyclopedia, roughly the size and shape of a pea, protected by the hood around it, and counts as the most sensitive erogenous zone of the body.

How much feeling actually sits there was only counted recently. Uloko, Isabey and Peters published the first count of the nerve fibers in the dorsal nerve of the clitoris in The Journal of Sexual Medicine. They arrived at an average of 5,140 fibers per nerve, and because that nerve is doubled, at roughly 10,281 myelinated fibers for the glans as a whole. Their conclusion is that the figure of eight thousand nerve endings quoted everywhere is on the low side: count the unmyelinated fibers too and there are many more.

Two things follow from that, and both sit in the same encyclopedia entry. Direct stimulation of the glans is not always pleasant; stimulation of the hood or just beside the glans is often felt as nicer. And after an orgasm the clitoris is very sensitive, which makes going on painful for some women at first. That last part is no small detail: it means what felt good right before an orgasm can look very different right after.

Misconceptions about clit torture

“It is just touching hard.” No. Touching hard is one of the few things that usually does not work here. Clamping, sucking, and buzzing do something different to the tissue than pressure from a finger.

“If she is not complaining, you can add more.” In this area feeling flips into numbness easily, and from the outside numbness feels the same as calm.

“Clamps can stay on.” For nipple clamps a limit of about ten minutes is generally held, because clamping longer causes bruising and pain and cuts off the blood flow for too long. That rule of thumb comes from a related but different area. Take it here as an upper limit, not a guideline.

“CT is something else.” CT is exactly this, just abbreviated.

What I see myself

I do pain play by agreement, from soft to hard, and this is the subject where I most often go slower than asked.

Fantasy and reality sit further apart here than with any other act. People come in with an image from a story or a clip, where someone does something that looks intense. In practice half of it turns out to be too much and the other half cannot be felt, because it lands just beside the spot that counts.

And what I most often see go wrong: carrying on after an orgasm because it was going so well. That is exactly the moment this area changes its mind. If you want to build this up calmly once, with someone who goes slower than you ask, I will walk you through it beforehand on a BDSM date.

What you can do yourself

  • Start over the hood or beside it, not straight on the glans. Direct is not automatically more intense, it is often just unpleasant.
  • Work with time instead of force. Ten more seconds says more than half a turn tighter.
  • Put a clock on anything that clamps and keep ten minutes as an upper limit, not a target.
  • Stop at numbness. Numb tissue is no sign that you can go further.
  • Agree on what happens after an orgasm, because that is the moment the feeling flips.
  • Talk afterward. It is more often about what happened in your head here than about what you felt.

More reading on clit torture

On this site the article on nipple clamps covers the same tools on a less extreme area, and the article on the difference between sharp and dull pain covers why the kind of stimulus matters more than the amount.

Off this site, the research by Uloko and colleagues is the best starting point if you want to understand why this area behaves differently from the rest of the body.

Provides the description of the glans as roughly the size and shape of a pea and as the most sensitive erogenous zone, the protective function of the hood, the observation that direct stimulation of the glans is not always pleasant, and that after an orgasm the clitoris is so sensitive that going on can be painful at first.
  • Nipple clamp. Wikipedia. Provides the rule of thumb for clamps: bruising and pain beyond ten minutes, and the risk of damage to tissue and nerves when the blood flow is cut off for too long. The source is about nipples, not the clitoris; used here as an upper limit for clamping in general.

Frequently asked questions

What people still ask about clit torture.

  1. What is clit torture?

Clit torture is pain play aimed at the clitoris, using clamps, a suction cup, vibration, or taps. The full name would be clitoral torture, but the scene uses clit torture or the abbreviation CT.

  2. Why is this area so sensitive?

Because an extraordinary number of nerve fibers sit on very little surface. Research counted an average of 5,140 fibers per dorsal nerve of the clitoris and roughly 10,281 myelinated fibers for the glans as a whole, on a spot the size of a pea.

  3. How do you build up clit torture safely?

Start over the hood or beside it instead of straight on the glans, work with time instead of force, and keep about ten minutes as an upper limit on anything that clamps. Stop at numbness; numb tissue is no sign that more can be added.

  4. Why does it feel different after an orgasm?

Because the clitoris is extra sensitive right after an orgasm, which makes going on painful for some women at first. So agree beforehand on what happens after an orgasm; that is the moment the feeling flips.

  5. Who can you turn to with questions about clit torture?

Victor, a gigolo with twenty-five years of experience in BDSM and a background as a psychotherapist. He does pain play by agreement, from soft to hard, and in this area deliberately slower than asked. You can ask him a question with no obligation through the contact form or chat for free first.
