Clamps

The only toy that keeps working while no one is holding it, and that's why it needs a clock.

What are clamps?

Clamps are pinching objects that hold themselves shut on a fold of skin, a nipple, a labia, or a scrotum. A clamp doesn’t hit and doesn’t cut. It holds pressure, and it keeps doing that with no one standing over it. Clamp is the umbrella name for the tool type, not for one model.

Model namesclothespin, tweezer, clover, or magnetic clamp
What it doesholds pressure on a small area, which cuts the blood flow at that spot
Best-known modelsthe toothed alligator clamp, the adjustable amerikaantjes, the tweezer clamp, and the clover clamp
Categorya tool for pressure play within BDSM, not for striking
Main limitthe time, and the moment you take it off

Which clamp models are there?

Four families, and the difference between them is in how the pressure gets controlled.

The encyclopedic description of clamps lines them up. The clothespin variant, of which the alligator clamp is one, works on a spring and often has a set screw. A tweezer clamp is a tweezer with a small ring you slide forward: the closer to the tip, the tighter it grips. Then there’s the magnetic clamp, which pinches between two strong magnets and won’t be adjusted at all.

The fourth is the clover clamp, and it stands apart because its pressure isn’t fixed but moves along with whatever pulls on it. That page explains how the mechanism works and why weights play out differently on it.

What do you watch for with clamps?

The time, not the force.

Clamps work because the pressure is higher than the pressure at which the capillaries refill. According to the StatPearls monograph on pressure injury, the microcirculation shuts off the moment an external force overcomes that filling pressure, and the tissue is left short of oxygen. In practice that means keeping track of the time and watching the color of the skin. Past ten minutes at a stretch, the same encyclopedic description notes, bruises and lingering soreness set in. If the blood flow stays closed off too long, tissue and nerves can take damage.

Taking a clamp off is the most delicate moment, because that’s when the blood flows back. Do it yourself and slowly, one clamp at a time, and never by yanking.

Where this fits on this site

Clamps belong to the lighter pain play that takes little room and does a lot. The page about the BDSM date covers how we agree in advance how far it goes.

  • Nipple clamp. Wikipedia. Supplies the four model families and how they work: the clothespin variant with a spring and set screw, the tweezer clamp whose sliding ring sets the tension, the magnetic clamp where the pressure isn’t adjustable, and the clover clamp, whose description has lived on clover clamps since 2026-08-10. It also supplies the ten-minutes-at-a-stretch limit before bruising and lingering soreness set in, the chance of damage to tissue and nerves when blood flow stays closed off too long, and the color of the skin as a practical check.
  • Pressure Injury. StatPearls, NCBI Bookshelf. Clinical monograph on pressure injury. Supplies the underlying mechanism: the moment an external force overcomes the filling pressure of the capillaries, the microcirculation shuts off and the tissue runs short of oxygen. Used here only for that mechanism. The monograph is about pressure ulcers in long-term bedridden patients, not about play of a few minutes.
  • Nipple clamps. The best-known use of this tool, and the place where the second wave of pain only lands when you take it off.
  • Alligator clamp. The sharpest model in the clothespin family, with a toothed jaw borrowed from electrical work.
  • Amerikaantjes. The model with the set screw, so you pick the pressure millimeter by millimeter.
  • Clover clamps. The model that tightens the moment you pull on it, and why that takes away the usual way out.
  • Weights. The add-on that hangs from a clamp and makes the clock run faster instead of slower.
  • Breast torture. The wider play that clamps on the breast fall under.
  • CBT. The same objects on the scrotum, with their own set of precautions.
  • Clit torture. The most sensitive spot where clamps go, where the build-up decides everything.
  • Crocodile clamp. The model with the saw teeth from the electronics shop, and why the plastic sleeve isn’t there for your skin.
  • Zipper. A row of clamps on a string, where pulling it loose is the whole point, and where the name comes from.

Frequently asked questions

What people still ask about clamps.

  1. What are clamps in BDSM?

Clamps are pinching objects that hold themselves shut on a fold of skin, a nipple, a labia, or a scrotum. A clamp doesn’t hit and doesn’t cut. It holds pressure, even with no one standing over it. There are four model families: the spring clothespin variant, the tweezer clamp, the clover clamp, and the magnetic clamp.

  2. How long can a clamp stay on?

No longer than about ten minutes at a stretch. Past that, bruises and lingering soreness set in, and if the blood flow stays shut off too long, tissue and nerves can take damage. Keep track of the time with a clock instead of by feel, and watch the color of the skin under the clamp.

  3. Who can you turn to with questions about clamps?

Victor, a gigolo with twenty-five years of experience in BDSM and a background as a psychotherapist. He works with clamps in every setting and explains, with no obligation, which model suits which feeling. Ask your question through the contact form or chat for free first.
