Mental bondage

Standing still because it was said so, not because a rope is holding you back.

What is mental bondage?

Mental bondage, in English also verbal bondage, is a form of bondage without rope or cuffs: you stay in place through a command, a position instruction, or a threat, not through anything physical. The dominant voice is the restraint. It works only if both agree to it and you choose to obey.

How mental bondage works

The restraint sits in the obedience, not in the material. According to the encyclopedic description of bondage, in verbal bondage the bottom simply gets the instruction not to move, with no physical restraint at all, and that is more common than people think. You could ignore the instruction, but you do not, out of respect for the power exchange the two of you agreed on.

Why people want mental bondage

The pull is surrender without anything attached to you. For the one underneath, the realization “I am keeping myself here, only because he said so” can land harder than rope: your own will is the restraint. For the one steering, the gain is the visible control over someone who stays of their own accord, with no material involved. Research by Wismeijer and Van Assen places BDSM as a leisure pursuit and not as a sign of a disorder. What mental bondage does not have is a rope you untie: it leans entirely on trust, so a safeword and clear agreements are no side matter.

What I see myself

I am Victor, a gigolo with a background as a psychotherapist. Mental bondage often works deeper with me than cuffs, especially with women who are used to control: there is nothing to fight against, only a choice they make again and again. That asks for more trust beforehand, and I take the time for it.

  • Bondage (BDSM). Wikipedia. Supplies the description of verbal bondage as bondage without physical restraint, where the bottom simply gets the instruction not to move, and the observation that this is more common than thought.
  • Psychological characteristics of BDSM practitioners. Wismeijer & van Assen, The Journal of Sexual Medicine 10(8), 1943-1952, 2013. Supplies the conclusion that BDSM is better seen as a leisure pursuit than as an expression of a disorder.

Mental bondage is a form of BDSM, a bondage variant that does without material.

  • BDSM. The pillar: the broader field of power and surrender mental bondage falls under.
  • Bondage. The overarching practice of restraint, of which mental bondage is the form without rope.
  • Predicament bondage. A related form where not the voice but an impossible position keeps you in place.
  • Safeword. The way out that counts extra, because there is no rope to untie.
  • Consent. The agreement mental bondage leans on entirely.

Mental bondage is a form of bondage without rope or cuffs: you stay in place through a command, a position instruction, or a threat, not through anything physical. The dominant voice is the restraint. It works only if both agree to it and you choose to obey.

  2. Why does mental bondage work without rope?

Mental bondage works because the restraint sits in the obedience, not in the material. You could ignore the command, but you choose to stay, and that makes the surrender yours again in every moment. For many people that lands harder than rope, precisely because your own will is what holds you.
