The province with the most room

Gelderland is the largest province in the Netherlands, and you feel it the moment you arrive. The Veluwe in the middle, with forests where you can walk for an hour without meeting a soul. The rivers along the edges, the Rhine, the Waal, the IJssel. The Betuwe with its orchards, and the Achterhoek where time runs a notch slower.

For a date, that space is an advantage. You are quickly away from the populated world here, and that helps if you would rather not be seen on your own street.

What I come across in Gelderland

The messages I get from this province circle one theme more often than average. Being alone without having chosen it. A partner who has died. A marriage where you have lived side by side for years. Children who have left home, and a house that suddenly sounds far too big.

Someone who takes the time, listens, and is simply there without working toward anything. I have a background as a psychotherapist, which does not turn this into a session, but it does mean I listen closely and there is room for whatever comes up. The cities

Nijmegen is the oldest city in the country and at the same time the youngest in mood, with the Waalkade and a student population that keeps the place awake. Arnhem has the Rhine, the Modekwartier and the Veluwezoom around the corner. Apeldoorn is greener and quieter, with Paleis Het Loo and the forests right at the edge of town.

Beyond that I come to Ede, Zutphen, Doetinchem, Tiel, Harderwijk and the villages in between. There is simply no separate page for those places. That does not mean I do not go there.

Discretion outside the city

The smaller the place, the more it matters how I arrive. In a village in the Achterhoek or on the Veluwe an unfamiliar car stands out, and I know that.

So I park where you want, even if that is a good way off. I do not come with flowers or anything else that draws attention. I do not ring the bell three times. And if someone asks who I am, I stick to the story you came up with. Feel free to think that up beforehand, so you do not have to invent something on the spot.

Many women choose a hotel in a neighboring municipality rather than home. A sensible choice, and I am glad to think along about where.

What we can do

The Veluwezoom near Rheden, where you walk across the heath with a view into the distance. De Hoge Veluwe National Park with the Kröller-Müller Museum inside it. The water meadows along the Waal near Nijmegen. A boat on the IJssel. Or just a village café in the Achterhoek where nobody asks where you are from.

And none of it is required. If you would rather just sit somewhere quiet straight away, that is an equally good evening. There is no fixed plan.

Practical

From Amsterdam, Gelderland is one to two hours by car, depending on where you are. The Veluwe and Arnhem are easy enough. The Achterhoek I prefer to plan a bit further ahead, and for a whole night the distance is no obstacle at all.

Travel costs depend on the distance and you know them beforehand, before anything is fixed. I have no surcharge for evenings, nights, weekends or public holidays, and booking as a couple costs nothing extra. The rest is answered at the frequently asked questions.

How it goes

It starts with a message. Where you are, roughly what you are after, and when you could. A few sentences is enough. You hear from me within a day.

After that we keep talking until it feels right for you. Texting, a call, or a coffee first with no obligation to take it further. If we plan something, you know beforehand exactly what will happen and what it costs, travel included. That amount holds, afterwards too.

When the time comes we take it slowly. Sit down, talk, and further only when you say so. You keep control of the pace, even if you change your mind. And afterwards you hear nothing more from me unless you want to.
