Armbinder

The piece of bondage that looks tight and has you watching the clock instead of the picture.

What is an armbinder?

An armbinder, also called a monoglove, is a tube-shaped sleeve that binds both arms behind the back, from the fingertips to above the elbows. Straps over the shoulders and under the arms hold it in place. It is one of the tightest forms of bondage there is, which makes it one of the shortest too.

English termarmbinder, also monoglove. See the encyclopedia entry.
Shapea roughly cone-shaped tube that encloses both arms, with a harness of straps
Materialthin garment leather or latex; also spandex, rubber, denim and reinforced satin
What it doestakes the arms fully out of use and pulls the shoulders back
Main riskshoulders and nerves, not the skin

What an armbinder does to the body

The posture is the point, and at the same time the problem. Because both arms are drawn together above the elbows, the shoulders rotate back and inward. That gives the vulnerable, drawn-up posture that is the whole reason the thing exists.

It is also where things go wrong. The encyclopedia warns in plain terms that an armbinder can cause problems with the soft tissue of the shoulder joint and with the blood supply and nerve supply of the arms and hands, and that great care is needed to prevent dislocation of the shoulders and damage to nerves and blood vessels.

What to watch for

The clock matters more than the feeling. In Cureus, Khodulev and colleagues found that in 90 percent of the people with rope injuries in their group the radial nerve was affected, and they describe a case where 25 minutes was already enough for a wrist drop of the hand with five months of recovery. Their advice is to spread the pressure, spare the nerve paths, limit the duration, and check in along the way.

In practice with an armbinder: keep it short, ask regularly about tingling or numb fingers, and release right away if someone loses strength in the hands. Tingling is the last warning sign, not the first.

If you want to feel something like this once with guidance rather than trying it on your own, you can, on a BDSM date.
