Far away, and that’s exactly the draw

Leipzig is about six hours from Amsterdam, Dresden an hour further. That’s a serious drive, so we make a stay of it: one night, two days, or a weekend. Otherwise I’d spend more time in the car than with you.

The downside of that distance is also its advantage. Out here you’re so far from your own life that nothing pulls at you anymore. No familiar faces, no obligations, no morning waiting to start. That’s room you don’t get close to home.

Three cities, all different

Over the past twenty years Leipzig has turned into one of the liveliest cities in Germany: young, creative, full of music, and affordable in a way Munich can’t imagine. Dresden has been restored to spectacular beauty, with the Frauenkirche, the Zwinger and the Elbe running through it all. Chemnitz is more down to earth, industrial in its past, and in recent years very much on the move.

If you’re thinking about a weekend: Saxon Switzerland with its rock formations is half an hour from Dresden and one of the finest hiking areas in Germany.

Language

German or English, and Dutch if that’s easier for you. The Saxon dialect is notorious even among Germans, but that plays no part in a conversation with me.

Practical

Travel costs match the distance and you hear them beforehand, before anything is fixed. Nothing gets added afterward, and there are no surcharges for the evening, the night, the weekend or a public holiday. If you come as a couple, the amount stays the same.

Plan well ahead, ideally a month. Then I pick a time when I genuinely have the room and I’m not watching the drive back with one eye.

Who I come here for

For women who want, just once, to get right out of their own surroundings, and who drive this far on purpose to do it. In this state that’s the reason I hear most.

Also for women who are married and have long missed what no longer has words at home. Women who were left on their own. And women from the villages in the Erzgebirge, where everyone knows everyone.

How it goes

A message with where you are and which period you have in mind. Often I answer the same evening.

After that we keep talking until it’s right for you, by text or on the phone. At this distance we usually call once as well before anything is set.

Choose your city

Below are the three cities above two hundred thousand residents. Do you live in Zwickau, Görlitz, Plauen or one of the villages in the Erzgebirge? Then pick the nearest city or send me a message.

An evening or a stay

Six to seven hours each way makes an evening impossible. It becomes a night, two days or a weekend.

Here that’s no compromise. If anything it’s the better version. Saxon Switzerland near Dresden, the Erzgebirge near Chemnitz, and Leipzig that only really wakes up in the evening: there’s plenty to fill a second day with if you feel like it.

If you’re unsure about the length, choose the longer one. Stopping earlier is always fine.

About money

Before anything goes in the calendar you know the length, the shape and the amount, including the drive east. Nothing new turns up on the bill afterward.

For a stay of several days I ask for a deposit, because by then I’ve already reserved accommodation myself.

Doubts I often hear

“Six hours of driving for me alone?” Yes. That’s my work and it’s built into the booking. Nothing to feel guilty about.

“Isn’t this something for other women?” Almost everyone thinks that before they write. In practice they’re teachers, nurses, business owners.

“And if there’s no click?” Nine times out of ten you feel that already while we’re writing. Then it simply doesn’t happen.
