MDlb
The CGL variant where the woman decides, and so the least common role split in the Dutch kink scene.
What is MDlb?
MDlb stands for Mommy Dom/little boy: the form of CGL in which a woman carries the caregiving, steering role and a man the small one. It is an English acronym, used untranslated in Dutch. As with the other CGL forms, it involves adults only, and no sex has to be part of it.
| Spelled out | Mommy Dom/little boy, also written MD/lb |
| In Dutch | the acronym stays untranslated, spoken as the English letters |
| Sits under | CGL, and through that acronym under ageplay |
| The two roles | a mommy domme opposite a little in the boy role |
| Sister acronyms | DDlg, DDlb, and MDlg, the same two positions filled in differently |
| What sets MDlb apart | the dominant half is a woman, and in research that is the least reported split |
Why MDlb is not a mirror image of DDlg
MDlb runs against the usual role split, and that changes what the acronym means in practice.
Brown, Barker, Friedrich and Rahman surveyed 470 Britons with a paraphilic interest for The Journal of Sex Research, among them age players. Their result is short: men more often took a dominant role, women more often a submissive one, and non-binary participants switched. MDlb is exactly the combination that came up least in that split. So an MDlb couple is not doing the same thing as a DDlg couple with the labels reversed. It is doing something the surroundings are far less set up for. You see it back in the language: where daddy dom is one fixed name, the dominant half here shifts between mommy domme and the gender-free caregiver.
Tiidenberg and Paasonen do mention MDLB in their row of acronyms in Sexuality & Culture, but their participants were women in the little role. There is no research on the male little. Anyone claiming to know how common MDlb is, is making it up.
Why people choose MDlb
Because care and authority come from the same person here, and for many men that is a rare combination.
What a little boy in MDlb looks for is usually not punishment but the lifting of responsibility. Someone else sets the order of things, and that is allowed without it turning shameful. For the woman in the mommy role the pull sits in the opposite: being dominant without having to be strict. MDlb has few examples. Anyone who wants to try it has to work out more on their own than with DDlg, where whole blogs stand ready.
Where this fits on this site
An MDlb dynamic needs someone to take on the mommy role, and that is not what I do. What does fit is the other side: the caring, steering half of a BDSM date, where we agree in advance how much you have to decide yourself.

Anonymous survey of 470 Britons from five interest groups, among them age play and ABDL, with role identity as an explicit measured variable, and so the only source that says anything about how the roles in this corner are split. Supplies that men more often took a dominant role, women more often a submissive one, and non-binary participants more often switched, and that more than 25 percent of participants did not identify as cisgender.
- Littles: Affects and Aesthetics in Sexual Age-Play. Katrin Tiidenberg & Susanna Paasonen, Sexuality & Culture 23(2), 375–393, 2019. So far the only peer-reviewed study in which littles speak for themselves. Supplies one thing here: MDLB appears in their list of CGL acronyms, but their participants were only women who call themselves little, so the male little below does not get a voice.

Frequently asked questions
What people still ask about MDlb.
What is the difference between MDlb and DDlg?
In MDlb the dominant half is a woman and the little one a man; in DDlg it is the other way around. That looks symmetrical, but in Brown and colleagues’ survey of 470 Britons, men actually took the dominant role more often and women the submissive one more often. That makes MDlb the rarer split, with far fewer examples to fall back on.
