Knismolagnia

Getting aroused by tickling or being tickled, with or without rope.

What is knismolagnia?

Knismolagnia is sexual arousal from tickling, being tickled or seeing it done to someone else. It’s the form of tickling where the stimulus isn’t in the laugh but in the arousal. The name comes from the Greek knismos, tickling.

Where knismolagnia comes from

The name is built from two Greek words: knismos, tickling, and the ending -lagnia, from lagneia, lust.

According to the encyclopedia, knismos goes back to the ancient Greek word for tickling. The same source relates that the psychologists G. Stanley Hall and Arthur Allin distinguished two kinds of tickling in 1897: knismesis, the light tickle that usually draws no laugh, and gargalesis, the harder tickle that does make you laugh.

Why people get aroused by this

Tickling sits close to surrender. Whoever is tickled can’t hold herself back, and that loss of control is, for many people, exactly the stimulus. The encyclopedia describes knismolagnia as arousal that can reach both the one tickling and the one tickled, and notes that a scene often brings in restraints that leave the sensitive spots bare. For you, tickling can be a light, playful way into power play. For the other person it’s the role of deciding when it stops. Not everyone who enjoys tickling gets aroused by it, and that’s fine. Knismolagnia is the case where the two coincide.

Where this fits on my site

Tickling with a bit of surrender to it is a light way to get used to power play, without it turning heavy right away. If you want to know how I build something like that up slowly and what we agree on beforehand, that’s on the page about the BDSM date.

Frequently asked questions

What people still ask about knismolagnia.

  1. What is knismolagnia?

Knismolagnia is sexual arousal from tickling, being tickled or seeing it done to someone else. It’s the form of tickling where the stimulus isn’t in the laugh, but in the arousal.

  2. Where does the word knismolagnia come from?

Knismolagnia comes from Greek: knismos means tickling and the ending -lagnia comes from lagneia, lust. The first part shares its root with knismesis, the light tickle that psychologists in 1897 set against the harder gargalesis.

  3. Why does knismolagnia often involve restraints?

In knismolagnia the stimulus is in not being able to escape. Restraints or bondage leave the sensitive spots bare and keep them reachable, so the one being tickled can’t turn away. That loss of control is exactly the arousal for many people.

  4. Who can you turn to with questions about knismolagnia?
