Gigolo in Saxony-Anhalt

Underrated, and here that’s an advantage

Saxony-Anhalt is on few wish lists, and yet it holds more World Heritage sites than many a more famous state: Quedlinburg with its half-timbering, the Bauhaus in Dessau, the Luther sites in Wittenberg. It’s a region where you easily lose two days without ever standing in a queue.

And running into no one you know here is no side note. For many women that’s exactly the reason to travel a bit further than strictly necessary.

Halle and Magdeburg

Magdeburg is the state capital, sits on the Elbe and has the oldest Gothic cathedral in Germany. The city is largely post-war, with wide avenues and plenty of green along the water.

Halle (Saale) lies right next to Leipzig and has a completely different character: an old university town with a lively centre, plenty of students and a musical history that goes back to Handel.

If you’re weighing a stay of a few days: the Harz begins an hour’s drive away, with forests, narrow-gauge steam trains and villages like Wernigerode and Quedlinburg where time has stood still.

Language

German, English or Dutch. In the Harz and the smaller places English is less of a given, but that makes no difference: I simply speak German.

Practical

From Amsterdam it’s a good five hours to Magdeburg, a little more to Halle. That’s too far for an evening, so we plan a night or two days. Travel costs depend on the distance and are fixed before there’s a date. Nothing gets added afterward, and there are no surcharges for the evening, the night, the weekend or a public holiday.

Plan it well ahead, ideally a month. Then I pick a time when I genuinely have the space.

Who I come here for

For women who want, just once, to get right away from their own surroundings, and who drive a bit further to do it than strictly necessary. That’s the reason I hear most here.

Also for women who are married and have long missed what no longer has words at home. Widows. And women from the villages in the Harz and along the Elbe, where everyone knows everyone.

Where we meet

Usually a hotel, and for a stay of a few days sometimes a holiday home in the Harz. The latter has an advantage: your own door, no front desk, and in the morning no one who sees you leave.

It can also be at your place. Then we agree beforehand how I arrive, where I park and what I say if anyone asks who I am.

How it goes

A message with where you are and which period you have in mind. As a rule I read and answer it the same day.

After that we keep talking until it’s right for you, by text or on the phone. On the day of arrival we take plenty of time for the start, and you set the pace.

Choose your city

Below are the two cities above two hundred thousand residents. Do you live in Dessau, Wittenberg, Quedlinburg or Stendal? Then pick the nearest city or send me a message.

An evening or a stay

A good five hours there and the same back makes an evening impossible. So it becomes a night, and more often two days.

In this state that’s no compromise. The Harz begins an hour’s drive away, and a holiday home in Wernigerode or Quedlinburg with your own door and no front desk is a completely different experience from a hotel room in the city.

Better to choose too long than too short. Leaving earlier is never a problem.

About money

Before anything is fixed you know the length, the shape and the amount, including the drive here. No item turns up afterward that you didn’t see coming.

For a stay of several days I ask for a deposit, because by then I’ve booked accommodation myself.

Doubts I often hear

“Five hours of driving for me alone?” Yes. That’s my work and it’s built into the booking. Nothing to feel guilty about.

“I’m not the type for this.” Almost everyone writes that somewhere at the start. In practice they’re teachers, nurses, business owners.

“And if there’s no click?” That usually shows in the texting beforehand, and then we put nothing in the calendar.
