City, harbour and beach

Rostock is a Hanseatic city with a university from 1419 and a harbour that’s still in full swing. The old town has brick facades and a long shopping street, but the real reason to be here lies a quarter of an hour away: Warnemünde, at the mouth of the Warnow, with a wide beach, a lighthouse and, in winter, almost no one.

From Amsterdam it’s about six hours by car. This becomes a stay of two days or a weekend.

What we can do together

The Neuer Markt with the town hall and the facades around it. The Marienkirche with its astronomical clock. The bank of the Warnow. And above all Warnemünde: the Alter Strom with the fishing boats, the beach that runs for miles, and a pier where the wind drowns out everything.

Further along the coast lie Kühlungsborn and Heiligendamm, and the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula. Inland, the Müritz with its thousands of lakes.

Language

German, English or Dutch. On this coast, Dutch holidaymakers are no rarity.

Who I come here for

For women who want, just once, to really get away, out of their house and out of a rhythm that’s been the same for years. Also for women who are married and have long missed what they never say out loud. For widows, who find that loss and longing don’t cancel each other out. And just as much for couples who want to share something in a place where nobody knows them.

Practical

About six hours’ drive from Amsterdam. What that brings in travel costs you know before a date is set, and the amount doesn’t move after that.

There’s no surcharge for the night, the weekend or a public holiday, and booking as a pair costs the same as on your own. Off season the accommodation on this coast is dirt cheap, which makes a two-day stay here cheaper than a single night in Munich.

What a stay like this looks like

Arriving, coffee, and an hour when nothing has to happen. After that you decide. Warnemünde and the pier, an afternoon in the city, or not leaving the room.

In winter there’s sometimes genuinely no one on that beach. An hour of walking with wind that drowns out every conversation does more than an evening of talking, and afterward talking is suddenly easy.

Discretion in practice

I work with no one behind me. No agency, no colleague reading along, no records your name ends up in. I throw messages away as soon as they’re no longer needed.

In a region where the villages are small, an unfamiliar car stands out. So I park it wherever you want it, if need be at the edge of the village with the last stretch on foot. Off season a holiday rental on the coast is often the most discreet option there is: your own door, no front desk, and no one counting what time you leave.

How a first meeting goes

First a few messages back and forth. I ask something, you ask something, and somewhere along the way you notice whether it fits. At this distance we usually call once as well before anything is set.

On the day of arrival we take plenty of time for the beginning. For almost everyone that takes longer than they’d expected, and it makes the rest easier.

After that it stays quiet on my side, unless you want otherwise.

Changing your mind is fine

Halfway through too, and even if you’ve driven six hours for it or I have. That’s no failure and no problem at all for me.

Stays on this coast often go a different way than planned anyway, usually a quieter one. The surroundings play their part.

The first time

The first time, almost no one is relaxed. What helps most is knowing beforehand how it goes: the address, the time, how I come in, and where the line is.

Beyond that, nothing has to happen. A first day made up of a beach walk and a conversation is not half a meeting. For some of the women it’s exactly what they were looking for.
