What is a theme party?

A theme party (also theme night) is a club night in the swingers or fetish scene with a set subject or crowd, such as lingerie, latex, or a women’s night. The theme decides the dress code and sometimes also who gets in. Nights like these are part of the ordinary rhythm of many clubs.

How a theme party works

A theme gives a night direction. The encyclopedia describes a theme party as a party where a theme is present and guests dress to match it. In the swingers scene that takes on its own form: according to the encyclopedia, clubs often hold theme nights, each with its own atmosphere. The dress code is usually not a suggestion but a condition: if you do not go along with it, you sometimes do not get in. Some nights aim at a particular crowd, for example couples only or women only, and that too is part of the theme. Whoever reads the club’s rules beforehand knows exactly where they stand.

What a theme party is not

“At a theme party you have to join in.” No. The theme is about the atmosphere and the clothing, not about an obligation to have sex. Watching, talking, and staying on the edge are as welcome on most nights as joining in.

What I make of it

A theme party is a group setting, and my work as a gigolo is the opposite: private, one on one, without an audience. Even so, I notice that some women are curious about a scene like that but do not feel ready for it yet. A quiet time together beforehand can then be a gentler way to discover what you enjoy, before you dive into a busy club night. Whether you take that step afterward is entirely up to you.
