Foxplay

A petplay persona for anyone who finds the loyal pup too well-behaved and the kitten too graceful.

What is foxplay?

Foxplay (also written fox play) is a variant of petplay in which someone plays a fox. The fox sits between the pup and the kitten: more headstrong than a loyal pup, less docile than a kitten. That makes foxplay more playful and less tied to a fixed role, and the fox is more often a switch than an obedient pet.

How foxplay works

Foxplay works like all petplay: one person takes on the posture and behavior of an animal, while the other plays the owner or caretaker. Animal roleplay, per the encyclopedia, turns on at least one participant playing a non-human animal, often with props like ears, a tail or a collar. The fox is a less common choice than the pup, the kitten or the pony. Petplay guides describe foxplay as combining traits of pup and kitten, which makes it adaptable and less tied to gender. It can be sexual, but it doesn’t have to be.

Why people choose a fox

The pull of the fox is in the headstrong streak. Anyone who doesn’t see herself in the loyal pup or the graceful kitten finds in the fox a pet that gets to be playful and a little defiant. For the person playing the fox, that opens room to be naughty and to let herself be tamed. For the owner, the fun is exactly in that taming. Petplay is often about slipping out of adult responsibility for a while and about relaxation, not always about sex. A fox is a role you switch on and off, not a fixed identity. Because the role gives you less to hold on to, it helps to agree clearly beforehand how far the taming goes.

What I see of it myself

In petplay what strikes me is that the role lets people drop faster than any conversation does. The moment someone puts the ears on, the head gets to switch off for a bit. A fox asks a little more of me than a pup: less obedient by default, so I work with seduction sooner than with commands. That is what makes it fun. If you want to explore a role like that with me, we agree beforehand on a BDSM date how far the taming goes.

Frequently asked questions

What people still ask about foxplay.

  1. What is foxplay?

Foxplay is a variant of petplay in which someone plays a fox. In character the fox sits between the pup and the kitten: more headstrong than a loyal pup, less docile than a kitten. It can be sexual, but it doesn’t have to be.

  2. What is the difference between foxplay and pup or kitten play?

A pup is playful and loyal, a kitten independent and sometimes bratty, and the fox combines the two. That makes foxplay adaptable and less tied to gender. Because the fox is more unpredictable, it is more often a switch and needs more taming than a pup.

  3. Who can you turn to with questions about foxplay?
