What are cancellation terms?
Cancellation terms are the agreements that decide what happens if you cancel a booked appointment: until when you can do that free of charge, what costs you pay after that, and whether you get a deposit back. They usually sit on the site or in the confirmation after a booking. They protect you and the provider both against misunderstandings.

How do cancellation terms work?
Almost always through a sliding scale. The shorter the notice you give, the more you pay, because that time can no longer go to someone else. A common form is that canceling well in advance is free, that closer to the date you keep back part of it, and that whoever doesn’t show up at all and says nothing pays the most.
Some providers ask for a deposit up front. That gives them the certainty that you’re serious. You get it back, or it gets settled, when you simply show up.
Why do cancellation terms exist?
Cancellation terms exist to cover the time a provider set aside for you. Not to stop you from canceling, which is the biggest misconception about them. They don’t forbid you from anything. You can always back out. From the sex itself in any case. Consent can be withdrawn at any moment, and no condition can contract that away. What you pay for a late cancellation is a fee for reserved time. Not a penalty for withdrawing your yes.
My own terms
Here is how my own cancellation terms work, laid out plainly.

The closer you cancel to the date, the more I ask, because that evening gets harder to give to someone else. That’s fair to both sides. You’re free to change your mind, and I’m protected against a gap in my calendar that comes too late to fill.
