Gigolo in East Flanders

A province with one clear centre

East Flanders revolves around Ghent, and that is no insult to the rest. The province also has Aalst, Sint-Niklaas, Dendermonde and Oudenaarde, but anyone planning an evening here almost always ends up in Ghent.

From Amsterdam, Ghent is about two and a half hours. An evening that runs long is doable, a night works more comfortably in practice.

What the province has to offer

Ghent itself is one of the most beautiful cities in Belgium. The Graslei and the Korenlei on the water, the Gravensteen right in the centre, and a student population that keeps the centre awake late.

Around it lie the Leie region with its castles and the river winding through the landscape, the Waasland toward the Scheldt, and the Flemish Ardennes with their slopes and cobbles. For a walk before the evening begins, that last one is especially well suited.

Language

Dutch. English and German work too. I do not speak French, which is nowhere a problem in this province.

Discretion in Flanders

In Ghent itself no one pays attention to you. Plenty of students, plenty of tourists, plenty of coming and going. In the smaller municipalities it is different, and I take that into account.

I park where you want, even if that is some way off. No flowers, no loud greeting on the doorstep, and a story ready in case someone asks who I am. Many women choose a hotel in Ghent over home for that reason.

Practical

Two and a half hours from Amsterdam. What that means in travel costs you hear before a date is set, and that amount does not move afterward.

There is no surcharge with me for the evening, the night, the weekend or a holiday, and booking as a pair costs the same as alone. Plan a week or two ahead.

Who I come here for

For women who are married and have not been touched in a way that holds anything for years. For women who have to work out how this goes all over again after a divorce.

Widows, in whom the body wants something while the head still lags behind. And many women from the smaller municipalities of this province, where this subject can be discussed with truly no one.

Couples can just as well. What is on offer is on my services.

An evening or a stay

Two and a half hours there and the same back rarely makes a short evening worth it, for either of us. If it runs on into the morning, or we make two days of it, the drive falls away completely behind the time that is left.

That difference is in the beginning. Those first hours are an adjustment for almost everyone, and they are a good deal more pleasant when there is no return trip behind them that you quietly count in.

When in doubt, take the longer one. Stopping earlier is always possible, tacking something on the moment it is just getting going almost never is.

About money

Before we fix anything you know the length, the shape and the amount, including the kilometres to get here. No line surfaces afterward that you had not seen coming.

Only for a stay of several days do I ask for a deposit, and that has a dull reason. By then I have already booked accommodation myself.

Doubts I often hear

“Isn’t this something for other women?” Almost everyone thinks that before they write. In practice they are nurses, teachers, business owners. People with a mortgage and a full week.

“Am I not too old for this?” Absolutely not. From their early twenties to well into their seventies, and the over-fifties make up the largest part.

“What if I freeze up?” Then we talk for an evening, and that will have been a good evening. There is no goal on the agenda that has to be met.

What I do not do

Rushing you. Play-acting. Working toward something because it seems the logical order. Reaching out when you have not asked me to.

And I will not go along with the idea that there is something shameful about this. This has existed as long as people have, it is simply allowed here, and the women who book me lead, in the vast majority, an utterly ordinary life.
