What is a pup hood?
A pup hood (also pup mask) is a mask or hood in the shape of a dog’s head, worn during puppy play. It belongs to the gear someone uses to take on the role of pup, often together with a collar. The mask covers the human face, which helps you really step into the pup role.

What a pup hood is for
The mask is more than a costume. Wikipedia describes puppy play as a form of roleplay in which participants take on a dog personality through clothing and dog-like behavior, with roots in BDSM and the leather scene. Pups often use targeted gear like hoods and collars for it. Because a pup hood hides the face, the human mask your brain automatically recognizes as “a person” falls away, and that makes it easier to really step into the fantasy of the pup.
Why people wear a pup hood
The pull is in letting go. Behind the mask you no longer have to be your ordinary self; you get to play, be naughty, and shake off the worries of the day. For the pup, putting on the hood often marks the shift into “pup space,” a playful, relaxed state. For any owner or handler, the mask makes the role division visible. As with all play: it only works when everyone enjoys it and the agreements are clear beforehand. In practical terms it helps to know that a hood partly limits sight, hearing, and breathing, so agreeing a safeword or a clear gesture is standard. With the more closed silicone hoods especially, it is wise to build it up slowly and check how it feels.
