Play date
A moment agreed in advance to play together, with the limits discussed up front.
What is a play date?
A play date (in Dutch speeldate) is a moment agreed in advance to meet someone and play together: kink, a scene or sex. It sets itself apart from spontaneous play because you agree beforehand what you want and where the limits lie. The term comes from the kink and lifestyle scene.

How a play date works
A play date starts with arranging, not with doing. According to the kink guide by Lee Harrington and Mollena Williams, a play date is a time agreed in advance to come together with someone, usually to explore kink or do a scene. The idea of “play” is broad: the encyclopedia describes play as the wide range of kinky activities, physical and mental, from light to intense. Precisely because a play date is planned, there is room to negotiate beforehand about what you want and where your limit lies, something that with spontaneous play happens more often in the moment.
Why people arrange a play date
The appeal is calm and clarity. For you, a play date means you can look forward to something with an easy mind, because the arrangements are already set. For both of you it means fewer misunderstandings: you know beforehand what is and is not intended. What it is not: a play date is not a tight script that rules out spontaneity. The arrangements set the frame; what happens inside it may still surprise you.

Questions about this term
What is the difference from spontaneous play?
With a play date you agree beforehand what you want and where your limit lies, while with spontaneous play, also called pick-up play, that happens more in the moment. A play date gives calm and clarity because of this, but does not rule out spontaneity: the arrangements set the frame, and what happens inside it may still surprise you.
