Kegel balls

Small weights for the pelvic floor, and at the same time a quiet stimulus no one sees. Known under a handful of names.

What are kegel balls?

Kegel balls (also ben wa balls) are small weights you wear in the vagina, usually to feel the pelvic-floor muscles working or as a quiet stimulus through the day. They’re also called geisha balls or love eggs. Often two balls sit joined by a cord, with a small weight inside that trembles along with every movement.

How kegel balls work

Kegel balls work through their weight and their movement. When you walk or move around, the weight inside rolls and your pelvic-floor muscles tighten a little to hold the balls in place. That small, repeated squeeze is what people experience as a stimulus or as exercise. A cord or flat pull ring is part of it, because the balls should come back out again without effort. Keep them clean, and don’t wear them for hours on end.

Why people use kegel balls

The pull is often in the secret. You wear them under your clothes while you do the shopping, and no one notices. For one person that’s a playful, arousing tension, for another it’s a way to become aware of a muscle group you normally never feel. Be honest about the health claims: according to Medical News Today, there’s little scientific evidence that kegel balls strengthen the pelvic floor more than ordinary pelvic-floor exercises do. As a stimulus they do what they promise; as a medical training device they promise more than they deliver.

What I see of it

I’m Victor, a gigolo. I know the fantasy where you put them in before you head out the door, that small, sneaky stimulus with you all day. For most women that idea wins out over the pelvic-floor theory by a wide margin.

Where this fits with me

Kegel balls are mostly something you try out on your own. If you’re curious how subtle stimulation and attention to your body fit into a meeting, the page on intimate togetherness explains how an evening like that works at your pace.

Frequently asked questions

What people still ask about kegel balls.

  1. What are kegel balls?

Kegel balls are small weights you wear in the vagina, to feel the pelvic floor working or as a quiet stimulus through the day. They’re also called ben wa balls, geisha balls, or love eggs, and often come as two on a cord.

The evidence is thin. There’s little scientific research showing that kegel balls strengthen the pelvic floor more than ordinary pelvic-floor exercises do. As a playful, quiet stimulus they do what they promise; as a medical training aid, the claims are bigger than what has been proven.
