Gun play
One of the heaviest forms of edgeplay, which most experienced players deliberately stay away from.
What is gun play?
Gun play (English) is edgeplay in which a firearm serves as an instrument of fear: it is about the threat, not the bullet. Two rules come first here. It is always a replica or prop, never a real or loaded weapon, and I do not offer it myself. Owning a weapon is forbidden in the Netherlands as well. It falls under fear play and overlaps with CNC.

What gun play is and why it weighs so heavily
Gun play turns on the fear, not the act. What people feel in it is the total surrender that arises when a weapon suddenly makes a difference in power absolute. It is a form of edgeplay, described in the encyclopedia as risk-aware play that lies at the edge of what counts as safe, and close to fear play and CNC. Precisely because the play works with a deadly image, many experienced players deliberately stay away from it.
The legal side in the Netherlands is unambiguous. Justis sums up the Weapons and Ammunition Act like this: “In the Netherlands you may not own weapons and you may not carry out acts with weapons either.” Gun play therefore takes place with a replica or a prop, and a real or loaded weapon is out of the question anyway.
Why some people seek it out, and why caution comes first
The appeal is the extreme surrender: the feeling that your life lies entirely in someone else’s hands brings, in some, an intensity that nothing else comes near. That is real, and it is also exactly why this play asks so much.
The boundary here is not a detail but the core. The psychological risk is large, even with a fake weapon, because the brain responds to the image and not to whether it is real. Anyone considering this belongs among the people most experienced with negotiation, with a watertight stop mechanism, and with the honesty that the risk can be limited but never removed.
