Zentai
A second skin head to toe, face included. Disappearing into a smooth, faceless surface.
What is zentai?
Zentai (from the Japanese zenshin taitsu, “suit for the whole body”) is a tight suit that covers you head to toe, including your hands, feet, and face. It’s usually made of lycra or spandex, with a zipper up the back. It turns you into one smooth, faceless surface in a single color.

How a zentai feels
A zentai closes around your whole body like a second skin, tight and unbroken from your fingertips to the crown of your head. No holes for your eyes, no open mouth, just smooth fabric in one color. Whoever wears it sees and hears less. Touch takes over. That shift of the senses is, for many wearers, exactly the heart of it.
Why people wear it
The appeal is often in the disappearing. Being no one for a while. Your face is gone, your name doesn’t matter, you’re no one and everyone at once. For one person that’s pure relaxation, since there’s no more gaze and no more judgment. For another the tight fabric itself is the stimulus, or the idea of becoming a blank doll or figure. It runs from playful to deeply fetishistic.
Where it belongs
Zentai began in Japan as a fetish and grew into a subculture of its own. From underground to stage. You now come across it in cosplay too, in animegao kigurumi (masked cosplay over a skin-colored zentai suit) and in performance art, and in the bedroom it belongs to the wider field of fetish clothing and paraphilia. You need no more than this to begin: one suit, and the rest is play.
