Zapper

One button, a short spark, and a jolt that mostly surprises. The lightest tool from the electro-play corner.

What is a zapper?

Zapper (English: zapper, also Tazapper) is a small electro toy for BDSM that, at the push of a button, gives off a short, sharp spark of static electricity. It stings sharply and is over again at once. The zapper belongs to electro play, the game of mild electric stimulation on the skin.

How a zapper works

Two metal contacts, a button, and nothing complicated beyond that. Press it and a spark jumps across that feels like a sharp jolt on the skin. Not a slowly building current like a TENS unit, but a short clap that sounds as hard as it feels. Often the noise startles more than the jolt itself. Then it’s over.

Why people play with it

The appeal is in the surprise. You know the jolt is coming, just not exactly when, and that small tension between knowing and not-quite-feeling-yet is, for many people, exactly why they love it. For whoever’s on the receiving end, the stimulus pulls the attention to the body in one clap. For whoever holds the button, it’s about timing and control. Heavy gear it is not: playful and short and easy to dose. But it’s electro play all the same, so the rules of current apply in full.

Safe use

Electricity and the heart don’t mix. According to the English-language explanation of erotic electrostimulation, fatal accidents have been documented where current ran straight through the chest, and that danger lies in the route through the body, not in how small the toy is. A zapper is light, but the same limits as with electro play apply.

What you can do yourself

  • Ask about a pacemaker, ICD, a heart condition, and pregnancy before you start, and stop at a single yes.
  • Stay below the waist. Buttocks and thighs are the safest spots, and a spark never crosses or passes over the chest.
  • Stay away from the heart, head, neck, and broken skin.
  • Start light and announce the first jolt. The startle is often more in the sound than in the spark.
  • Agree a safeword and lower the toy the moment it’s said.

Where you can go

Are you curious how such a spark feels, but you don’t see yourself fiddling with gadgets on your own? Then it can happen calmly under guidance during a BDSM date. I work as a gigolo with this kind of toy and build it up from the lightest jolt, to exactly as far as you find pleasant. What is and isn’t allowed, we agree beforehand.
