Lingerie fetish

For anyone whose desire is sparked not by the body but by the garment, and who wonders whether that's strange.

What is a lingerie fetish?

A lingerie fetish is sexual arousal that comes from lingerie and other underwear itself, not from the body underneath. Lace, satin, a corset or a pair of garters do the work. It is a form of clothing fetish, aimed at the garment as an object; the person wearing it comes second.

Why lingerie in particular arouses

Clothing that sits close to the skin and is rarely seen in public charges itself easily with meaning. Lingerie belongs to undressing, to a moment that normally stays private, and that makes the fabric a good place to hook desire onto. In the largest study of how fetishes break down, Scorolli and colleagues (2007) found that objects belonging to the body make up almost a third of all fetish preferences, right after body parts themselves. Underwear falls exactly into that group. The encyclopedic description names panties, stockings, tights and bras as the usual objects, and separates those who wear them from those who want to see, smell or feel them on someone else.

What a lingerie fetish gives

The arousal often sits in the run-up and in the idea, not first in the sex. The choosing, the putting on, the fabric sliding over the skin, the unwrapping of something that otherwise stays hidden. For one person the seeing counts, for another the feeling or the smell of a worn piece. For a couple, lingerie can be a way to build tension without having to do anything straight away: a gift, a surprise under the clothes, an evening that starts with the choosing. It only gets difficult once the garment is the only route to arousal, or becomes more important than the woman wearing it. Almost always it is an ordinary preference; a disorder, according to the encyclopedia, is what it becomes only when it causes distress or problems.

Where this fits on my site

Want an evening in which lingerie plays a part, or something else that sets you thinking? With me it’s simply allowed to be there. I plan a booking around what you enjoy, without you having to justify a preference. What I do exactly and how such an evening runs is on the page about the BDSM date. You can also ask your question first, no strings attached.

No, a lingerie fetish is a preference, not a disorder. In sexology a fetish becomes a paraphilic disorder only when someone suffers from it themselves or when it harms others. Enjoying lingerie between adults does not fall under that.
