Why sound hits so hard

A voice up close feels more intimate than almost any image, maybe because sound reaches your insides without you having to see a thing, and because your ears switch on your imagination instead of laying everything out in front of you. Research by Chivers and Timmers showed that audio stories trigger a measurable physical and felt arousal. Why people love it

Sound comes straight in and needs little. A voice in your ear, or the moaning of someone who’s clearly enjoying it, can turn you on more than anything there is to look at.
