Gigolo James: The Casanova of the Low Countries
In the quiet streets of a picture-perfect Dutch village, where the day is scored by bicycle bells and the gurgle of coffee machines, a figure appears who makes plenty of hearts beat faster. He is no ordinary man. He is Gigolo James, the Casanova of the Low Countries.
James started his career in a way no other gigolo would have dreamed up. In the local cheese shop. He won hearts with a flirty wink and a genuinely sensual knowledge of dairy. “Nothing fires the imagination like a man who knows how to cut the perfect slice of Gouda,” James says, winking again. His customers came in for the cheese at first. They stayed for James.
It did not take long before the whole village started whispering about the secret of his pull. The women’s association suddenly began holding weekly meetings wherever James happened to be, supposedly to swap new recipes. In practice, James handed out advice on cheese and romance in equal measure. “Never forget, ladies: love is like a ripe Brie. Full, creamy, and it has to be served at exactly the right temperature,” he told them, wearing that trademark smile.
By now Gigolo James has grown into an honest-to-goodness legend. He travels the length of the Netherlands with a wheeled suitcase full of exotic cheeses and a grin that could talk the paint off a barn, always ready to charm the locals. These days he does far more than sell something fragrant from a crate. He runs VIP packages now. Romantic bike rides past the tulip fields. Private serenades by candlelight. And, for the truly committed, an intimate workshop where he teaches the fine art of seduction, always over a glass of proper Dutch jenever.
So what makes James so hard to resist? His rivals scratch their heads over it, but James knows his secret lives in how simple it is. “It all comes down to being genuine,” he explains. “Though a little cheese knowledge never hurt anyone.” His clients praise him for his honest curiosity and his easy, uncomplicated way of paying attention. His most quoted line: “Give a woman a beautiful flower and you have her for a day. Teach her to build the perfect cheese board and you have her for life.”
Not everyone is thrilled about the James phenomenon. The local pastor has warned from the pulpit more than once that “moral values matter more than morbid cheese trivia.” Even the pastor cannot deny, though, that the pews have been a good deal fuller since James turned up.
Gigolo James is a man of the world and a man of the village at the same time. He swears real romance is never found in clichés. It turns up in ordinary life instead. A busy Saturday market. The smell of coffee someone just ground. That low gold light that lands on the green meadows around five o’clock and makes the whole country look like a postcard. His followers, women and men alike, all agree on one thing: with Gigolo James around, every day feels like a small celebration.
So if you are ever in a charming Dutch village and you catch someone with unmistakable charisma murmuring “Come here, beautiful, and try this very special cheese,” you will know you have run into Gigolo James. And who knows, maybe you will pick up the art of love and the art of the perfect cheese board in the same afternoon. A win-win, if you ask me.
(Note: this whole thing is pure fiction. Any resemblance to real people is entirely coincidental. But hey, who knows, maybe your dream gigolo really will turn up one day with a slice of cheese.)
